This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Beat-Breakers is a street dance crew based in Plymouth, known for their high energetic and exciting performances. The crew’s reputation stretches across the whole of the UK.

Created in 2002 when street dance and Hip Hop wasn’t even a scene in Plymouth the crew have gone from strength to strength, making appearances on TV shows such as CBBC XCHANGE, Got to Dance and Alesha’s Street Dance Stars, as well as working with artists such as Lemar, Bashy, Sway, Labrinth, JLS and Flo’Rida.

The Beat-Breakers founded Plymouth's first dance studio dedicated to urban dance style, Rhythm City, and now train aspiring street dancers to compete and perform across the UK representing Plymouth, winning a lot of titles and over 1,000 trophies.

For the last 11 years Chris has dedicated his life to teaching young people the styles of street dance. He is a role model to the young people he teaches. Chris has changed the lives of many young people, helping them build confidence and giving them the push to reach goals. Some of his students have now gone on to some of the top universities and dance colleges. Others have gone on to win British and world championships.
