recorded at Ealsden Digital Studio, April 2017 Music and lyrics by Björn Jakobsson © Treplektra Produktion Thirty years ago I wrote a song called "Bein' a Clown" I wrote it thinking about a friend who was feeling down The song was about the fact that some pupils in school have to play the fool to be able to survive, and to stay alive My friend was that kind of guy who I never saw shed a tear so people thought it was a role he was willing to wear But of course he just learnt that there weren't anyone to trust And he never fussed He just played his role, while strangling his soul He said: ”There aren’t many things I want, but I’m so fed up with this eternal taunt” He said: "One thing is for sure, I don't want to be a clown anymore" My friend, he kept on playing his old familiar part The jester that could make you laugh with a simple fart But most clowns carry sorrows through their lonely lives They hide their secret knives until the final day and there’s nothing left to say He said: ”There aren’t many things I want” …. Some years ago my friend decided to leave us all behind. He searched for better solution but he could never find a good answer to why it had to be this way He didn’t want to stay. A Sunday night he blew out the light. And that’s how that story ends It was too late to make amends You see, one thing was for sure, He didn’t want to be a clown anymore He didn’t want to be a clown anymore
