Yolanda Fairell is a truth seeker and community activist. She has been practicing meditation for over a decade and credits it for her sense of awe regarding the Universe, especially as it presents itself as herself. Yolanda is a biological mother of two and a foster mom of two. She enjoys dancing, playing, and speaking. Yolanda has earned a Master's Degree in Sociology and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She has taught sociology for many years including the courses: The Sociology of Work, The Culture of Human Organizations, Race and Ethnic Relations, Structured Inequalities in the U.S., and Social Problems. She is a member of Leadership Tallahassee Class 25 and serves on the board of the Family Tree, a community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
