Heavy security details shut down parts of Buenos Aires for G20

(1 Dec 2018) Buenos Aires awoke Saturday to heavy security and entire areas of the city blocked off because of the Group of 20 meetng taking place there. Residents were forced to show their identification cards to soldiers standing in front of many city streets in order to enter and exit their neighborhoods. Russian President Vladirimir Putin's motorcade was seen leaving the hotel he stayin in overnight as he made his way to the second and final day of the meeting. All-night talks at the Group of 20 summit led to a possible "breakthrough" on fixing the global trading system, European diplomats said Saturday, as negotiations stretched into the final hours of the gathering's crucial second and final day in the Argentine capital. Despite deep divisions going into the summit and resistance from the United States, European Union officials were optimistic and said countries were making progress on a final statement that will acknowledge problems with the World Trade Organization but commit to reforming it.
