Prof. Žiga Turk (1962) has degrees in computer science and structural engineering from University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, where he has been a professor and researcher in the field of engineering communication. In 2007-2008 he was minister from Growth in the Government of Slovenia, in 2009-2011 Secretary General of the Reflection Group in the Future of Europe at the European Council in Brussels and 2012-2013 Minister of education, science, culture and sports in the Government of Slovenia. In the recent work he combines his background in technical sciences with experiences in the area of policymaking. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
