WARNING: This 7-part series of recordings contains profanity, and references to drug use. I am not condoning those activities here, what I am sharing is a historical audio document from the Vietnam War era that focuses on soldier activities outside of there normal fighting regimes during there down time in Vietnam, and it also gives insight to a day in the life of a Vietnam soldier at that time during the height of the war.

This particular cassette tape was found by me and my friend from a Minneapolis garbage/salvage dump back when we were in high school in the 1982-83 time frame. Being curious teenagers, we wanted to see if there were any usable items being thrown out by Twin City dwellers, and I found a few items including vintage hi fi stereo component guides and magazines as I was, and still very much into  collecting old audio gear technical information. 

Back to the tape, when I was going through an old magazine box from under another pile of rubbish, I found an old Ampex audio cassette dated May 28th, 1972. I did not know what was on it at that moment, and if it even was usable after being in the dump for who knows how long, when I got it home, I cleaned it up a little on the outside, it was actually very clean considering laying in a dump. Finally, the playing moment of truth, and it worked!!, years later I transferred it to CD to maximize preservation of this one of a kind, historical audio tape document from a turbulent time in our history.

It made sense at that time to communicate back home with family, and friends in that manner since they did not have Skype, and all these Internet communication technologies our war veterans now currently have. Also, long distance telephone calls were very expensive at that time, and not feasible by most people than.
