Eric Stein A great Eye, lidless, wreathed in webcams. At Pumping Station: One (Chicago's Hackerspace) people often send messages to the mailing list or ask on IRC if anyone is at the space or plans to be later. There's an opportunity there to solve problems automatically rather than through human input. Member Eric Stein designed a Python / OpenCV based application (lidless) to monitor four video cameras in the space and offer a REST API, a web front end with historical graphs, and an IRC bot in the IRC channel to relay information about how busy the space is. This talk is a short demo of the application accompanied by motivations and high level archtechture breakdown. Following the demo/archtechture I'll dive into the parts of the code that people are most interested in hearing about with Q&A. This will be our Best Meeting Ever! You will need to RSVP at http://chipy.org/ RSVP Quick Links: YES http://chipy.org/meetings/rsvp/40/yes MAYBE http://chipy.org/meetings/rsvp/40/maybe ChiPy is made up of people of all levels of programming and Python knowledge. At every meeting we have had both beginning programmers, people who are just starting to use Python, as well as experienced Python programmers. Don't be intimidated about coming to a meeting. Note that ChiPy is not a formal organization. We collect no dues, elect no officers, and keep no roster. Signing up for the mailing list carries no obligation. Nor does showing up at the meetings. Nor, at least so far, does anything else we have done, although we always appreciate it when our presenters show up. (They usually do!) http://chipy.org
