Nigel Allinson, MBE, ScD, is the Distinguished Professor of Image Engineering at the University of Lincoln. Currently he leads a team building probably the most complex medical imaging instrument ever conceived. It will improve the accuracy of proton beam therapy in the treatment of cancer – work that combines the search for the Higgs Boson and your mobile’s camera. Nigel also developed the Police forensics system that sends fingerprints straight from a crime scene to a remote fingerprint bureau. He also helped to develop the technology that allows you to watch videos on the internet.
