This hand held dreamlike video is of Jacqui McShee and the updated version of Pentangle performing Cruel Sister at Butlins. There can be few venues less pretentious than Butlins at Skegness on the North Sea shore in early December where the cold winds howl with horizontal sleat. Whether even updated interpretations of traditional songs get the attention they deserve in caberet style settings is open to question I think. Capturing hand held images there proved challenging and so what emerges here is a slightly hallucinogenic version of events, which for those of us who remember Pentangle starting in the 1960s is probably a reminsicent moment from a secret past.... and for all I know present too. Whatever, enjoy the wonderful Jacqui McShee and her new Pentangle interpretation of this old Pentangle favourite "Cruel Sister"
