I just did a quick test in After Effects of a gun shot. Using a plastic water pistol (Lol all I could find) and putting it into After Effects layering the muzzle flash onto it then back into premiere and put sound on it as well as playing around with the colour balance to give it a different effect. All in the name of learning.
