The implementation of the Supreme Court-mandated National Register of Citizen (NRC) project is allegedly harassing, traumatising and targeting Bangla-speaking Muslims and Hindus in Assam.
Those who have been identified as 'doubtful voters' are being put behind bars in detention centres even before the pronouncement of the final verdict.
These detention centres operate from jails in six districts: Goalpara, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Tezpur, Jorhat and Kokrajhar (where only women are lodged).Take a look at the case of Zakir Ali who belongs to ward number 4, Howli town, Barpeta district.
