American record producer, singer/songwriter and actor Robin Charles Thicke, was born on 10 March 1977, in Los Angeles, California. He is perhaps best known for his controversial, yet commercially successful single called “Blurred Line”, which was released in 2013. Upon its release, the song peaked at #1 on the Billboard charts, in addition to topping charts in such countries as Australia, Ireland, Spain and France to name a few. In a span of 22 weeks, “Blurred Lines” succeeded in selling more than five million copies in the United States alone. Up to date, the song has sold over 14.8 million copies worldwide, which places it among the best-selling singles of all time. In the US, it received a six-time Platinum certification from the RIAA. Nevertheless, “Blurred Lines” was met with a lot of criticism for promoting a supposed unhealthy approach towards sexual consent, and defending rape culture. The song was banned in numerous institutions, but inspired the release of a variety of parodies, the most notable being a feminist parody called “Defined Lines”, “Word Crimes” performed by Weird Al Yankovic, and “Blurred Bynes” by “DWV”.

In regards to his personal life, Robin Thicke married Paula Patton in 2005 – having first met her in 1991 - and they have a child together. However, Thicke and Patton split up in 2014, when Patton filed for a divorce.
