Rajoy denies receiving illegal payments and refuses to step down Mariano Rajoy, PM of Spain, has started his address to the Spanish nation and its representatives. The politician admits that "he had done wrong", making a mistake in trusting this former colleague of his, Luis Barcenas, former treasurer of the People's Party, the ruling party, at the center of a corruption scandal. Mariano Rajoy categorically denies the existence of double rule accounting and corruption within the party, asking his critics to prove their allegations. Fiona Gova explains also the delay of this address, which comes after months of protests and impopularity, by the fact that Rajoy has to face threats of a motion of censure by the opposition, and the idea that the PM wants to show a strong and recovering Spain. 08/01/2013 News Duplex with Fiona Govan, our correspondant in Madrid, Spain.
