This racing sim is built from 1 1/4" PVC with a 1/4" plywood floor covered with red and black duct tape, the black wood the wheel and shifter are mounted to came from an old partical board bookshelf that finally gave up and fell apart so I recycled some of the wood, the original simu8tor plans called for 2" pipe but my experience with pvc being in the construction industry for the last 25 years 1 1/4" is just fine, I know someone who actually built theirs from 1" with no problem but I weigh 230 so I chose 1 1/4". My materials list is as follows: 1 1/4" sch 40 PVC home improvement store (you can get "furniture grade" Pvc but the fittings are more expensive, they have nicer, smoother edges) but what I used it for the regular schedule 40 is fine $100 (the price of the pipe includes 6 ea. 1 1/4" PVC hanger straps to mount the wood to the pvc and the pvc glue, SEE BELOW FOR GLUE TIPS AND WARNINGS.. Speed daddy racing seat from www.ebay.com $113 free shipping Speed daddy 4 point harness www.ebay.com $20 free shipping Logitech G29 w/shifter www.amazon.com $388 free 2 day shipping w/prime account Wood $free! Salvaged from an old bookshelf Various hardware, to hard mount the wheel, pedals and shifter require M6 hardware not included with and Logitech wheel. The only part of the wheel that is hard mounted using bolts are the pedals, the wheel and shifter use the supplied clamp. (That's a mark against logitech, I mean honestly, how expensive would it be to include a handful of hardware in a couple different lengths? The wheel and pedals alone are anywhere from $229 to $299 depending on where you buy them and another $45 for the shifter) The price of the hardware greatly depends on how much you buy (in bulk) and where. I have found places like home depot and Lowe's to be expensive because the price of most nuts and bolts are priced individually, the M6 bolts were like $1.17 for 2 and the pedals require 6, the wheel and shifter require 2 each so 10 bolts in total. That's not terribly expensive but when you factor in the price of the wheel and the shifter that's NOT included it seems like logitech would just throw a handful of hardware in and be done with it. The best bet on hardware is to shop at a place that specializes in fasteners like fastenal or shop online. Hardware in bulk ends up being cheaper in general. A tip on using pvc glue, that stuff dries FAST!! Once you insert the pipe into the fitting you only have 5 or 6 seconds and it is solid! dry fit your pieces FIRST! If you have to dry fit your entire rig to ensure it is right BEFORE committing to glue because there is no going back, once it's glued, IT'S GLUED! I used 2 part epoxy to set the angle of the wood that the wheel attaches to, a level wheel table made for a weird wheel angle for me.
