This is a video from my student recital in May 2010. This is the "Tempest" sonata, and it's probably my favorite Beethoven sonata...I've wanted to learn it ever since I first heard my cousin play it when I was in elementary school. This was actually the first Beethoven sonata I've ever learned to completion, and I've certainly never performed an entire one by memory before. This is the first movement, and it was probably the one that took the longest for me to get comfortable with. The trills took me weeks to get down, and I don't usually play them this quickly, but I always have bad cases of the nerves whenever I play by memory, and I don't think I've ever had to remember this much music in one stretch before. Still, this is a beautiful piece, it's my favorite of all of Beethoven sonatas, and I'm so happy I was finally able to perform it -- and by memory, no doubt. Sorry that my mom missed the first phrase in taping this movement...hope you enjoy anyway.
