Corruption is defined as the abuse of public resources by private or public people or institutions, according to  Executive Director for Corruption Watch David Lewis. This came  in light of the Transparency International's corruption perception index report released last year that gave South Africa a rating of 61 out of 178 countries, with a score of 44 out of 100. That did not places the country in the ranks of countries with serious corruption problems. In 2016 a total of 4 391 reports of corruption were received, a substantial increase on previous years since Corruption Watch was launched in 2012. This amounts to an average of 11 reports a day, compared to seven in 2015. Executive Director for Corruption Watch David Lewis is there.
