For a couple of years now I've been trolling youtube for isolated tracks (kbd, drums, guitar, anything I can get my hands on). You get so used to the usual studio or live tracks you learned the songs with that you can get lost in the song itself rather than focussing on what you should be doing - or, on the other side of that, finding out just how well you know your part! So I like to try out different covers, each with their own little tweaks and variations, different mistakes being made that can trip you up, or just discovering more in depth the interactions between the bass and instrument-x when the latter is isolated or higher in the mix.

I came across this drum cover of Gates of Delirium yesterday as I was searching for a song to warm up to. I had the camera ready to go so I recorded my first-ever take with this cover, and completely cold as well, I hadn't touched the instrument in days and hadn't played this song in a while either, so it's a bit sloppy in places (and my hand gives out completely for a couple of seconds at one point towards the end, as you'll see), but it was a first take I was really pleased with, and I love the energy.

Definitely going to redo this in the near future, once I get a new amp (this one is on its last legs).Just wanted to put this up for posterity.
