Liverpool Lime Street is the principal mainline railway station of central Liverpool and one of Britain鈥檚 oldest major urban terminals. The station opened in the 1830s and developed into a large complex beneath monumental iron-and-glass train sheds, connecting Liverpool with Manchester, London and cities throughout Britain. Its position beside St George鈥檚 Hall places the station directly within the monumental civic center, while its long history reflects Liverpool鈥檚 importance during the formative decades of modern railway transportation.
