China's box office revenues surged in 2017 as the world's second-largest movie market edged closer to overtaking the US market. After a sharp slowdown in 2016, the ticket revenue in 2017 grew to 8.6 billion US dollars, more than triple 2016's growth rate. Domestic films contributed to over 50 percent of the market.
