I have never understood the gender differences, what it meant to be a feminist or the contrary. I have been lucky enough to have parents who set an example of two people working together and standing by one another, avoiding all kinds of barriers. Inseparable since early childhood, we often conquered the battlefields of life. There were no boys or girls, men or women, just warriors and demonstrators of humanity. Just recently, when I founded “Design by Pana” an Upcycle Social Business Company where I employed men carpenters, I realized how deep the roots of a marginalized woman figure lie in the Albanian mentality. Pezana Rexha is the founder of the ecological social business “Design by Pana”. Pezana has studied Architecture at the Urban Planning Faculty in Tirana. Earlier on her passion was related to animal protection. In this regard she established the “ARA” organization, an initiative to which she was dedicated for the three years. Later on she discovered her passion about recycled things. So, she signed up for “Start Up” program with her idea of building an eco-friendly business, having the use of palets at the heart of the business. Her ideas resulted very successful and from then the “Design by Pana” journey started. While the business was growing she decided to open a small manufactory and employed 10 men. Her business has become very popular and many businesses prefer to use “Design by Pana” products to decorate their environments. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
