Beyond the Gates Festival proudly presents the “Anno Domini” art exhibition created by Romanian graphic designer Costin Chioreanu and dedicated to the classic eponymous album released by
Tormentor 30 years ago. The display will feature the artist’s authentic vision on each song included on the majestic album written by the Hungarian innovators. Costin Chioreanu has been fascinated by the entire discography of these black metal legends and obviously, “Anno Domini” makes no exception. This fascination started in the mid 90’s, when the artist was in contact with a strange and unlawful type of underground given the nature of the post-Communist Romania.

With his blood rooted in the Transylvanian realms and his genuine passion for black metal music and the dark side of the unseen, Costin was a natural choice for bringing the traces left by the Hungarian ghost in the actual world. He addressed his artistic approach to Jonas Svensson and the musicians in Tormentor showed their willingness for the emergence of such depiction, which involves the migration of the aesthetic particularities found in the band’s wrecking sound and sinister musical structure into the visual medium, by respecting the cult ethics through a fair adaptation of the old themes and motifs on “Anno Domini”. Several themes found on “Anno Domini” are ingrown in both the Hungarian and Romanian cultures, and Costin’s endeavour revolved naturally around an Eastern way of perceiving darkness.
