"Fostering for dog and cat rescue is so rewarding, and it has even made me more civic minded in general! Since volunteering a lot of hours away from home doesn't work with my schedule, housing a dog for a rescue until they find it a home makes a lot of sense, is a lot of fun, and best of all most rescues will cover the expenses! If you can't foster, definitely adopt a rescue instead of buying, and if you aren't ready for a pet right now then choose one of your local rescues for that holiday charity contribution. If you're looking for something even more specific, SpayFirst is a great organization that gets to another root of the problem by providing affordable spay/neuter in low income areas. Check it out!
