www.findinglife.ca (Ottawa) -- On May 22, 2010, Elia Saikaly not only stood on top of the World, but shared the journey with 20 000 Canadian youth in their classrooms using HDVideo, skype and social media sites such as facebook and twitter. The campaign taught students that they had the power to change the world and resulted in funds being raised for an international charity for orphaned children. Saikaly will deliver the keynote address to more than 4,000 new Carleton University students at the New Student Convocation ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 8. "Excellence in communications. Commitment to the world. The imagination to dream and the courage to realize one's goals. These are all qualities which Carleton University's student body shares with Elia," says Roseann O'Reilly Runte, president and vice-chancellor. "The academic mission of Carleton opens minds to possibilities, the campus to the world and brings the community to our classrooms. Who better to inspire our new first-year students than the man who has participated in five Everest climbs, travelled extensively all over the world and still finds the time to help out different international charities?"
