The GOP likes to point to Texas as a model for how great Tort Reform really is. After all, Karl Rove spent most of the 1980's turning the Texas court system into a Republican-controlled gaggle of cronies that consistently ruled in favor of big business. But he was able to sell tort reform to the voters by saying that it would lower healthcare costs, which would mean more money and better services to Texas citizens. Well lo and behold, Karl couldn't keep that promise, and now Texas has one of the most expensive, and most dangerous, healthcare systems in the country. And the GOP STILL wants to push the Texas model onto the rest of the country. Mike Papantonio of Air America's Ring of Fire talks about the history of Texas tort reform, and what will happen to the rest of us if this thing goes national, with president of the political consulting group Libertas LLC, Cliff Schecter.
