Well...it might not win any oscars or videography awards--but the memories of working on this movie with my CSA classmates will remain with me forever. This is an excellent time capsule of my 2012 summer. It serves as a testament to our creativity, patience, teamwork, hard work, and endurance. Pre production was pretty tough, I stayed up until 4 am on some nights to finish writing a preliminary script to show my potential actors.I was so happy that everyone in my senior class was willing to help me and lend a hand. With their support and energy behind me, I set off to compile my materials and props and video equipment. I used black and white dress clothes and a silver tie plus my cousin's blazer to be my detective ensemble. . I used a mini camera I got at brookstone and my dad's magnifying glass for funny stalking scenes.

But with video equipment, that was a different story. During crunch week, everyone in my video field production class had apparently already reserved a camera and sound devices to record with. When I went to the media desk to get some equipment I was so happy when I heard the word panasonic. But....it turned out to be an old 90's panasonic
dsr pdx10. By the time I found out that it had no memory stick ( it didn't include it in the first place, was primitive and used dv tapes, it was too late. I might have even shot some stuff, but the shotgun mic wouldn't work. Although the camera was Standard Definition, it is wicked fast with a creamy smooth frame rate.
In the end though, I got myself a Canon T2i DSLR with an H4n portable recorder plus a shotgun mic. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the shotgun mic to work and so I just settled on using the right channel of the H4n internal mics. I managed to get some good shots, but I was far from finished. Even asking my teacher for extending the maximum time to 12 minutes and asking to use the equipment for an extra 24 hours didn't help. In the end, I resorted to using Phu's Sony Cybershot DSC-HX100V hybrid camera and my Fujifilm S2950. The sound quality wasnt that great but I actually really started to like phu's camera's audio ( you just need to amplifying) My camera's audio was just horrible hahaha, but I managed.

That was just the beginning. The suit plus lights no fans and summer time and stress made me drenched with sweat everyday. I stayed up until 3 am everyday to get my filming done. When I replayed the shots I realized how nervous I am as an actor. Maybe I'll learn from my mistakes in the future.

Editing took such a long time as well

I had to rename video plus audio files to avoid confusion later on. I didn't rename them all, which meant that I was confused later on in the process hahaha.
different frame rates 60p and 30p and different resolutions and quality
different video formats due to 3 different cameras made things tough. mov avi and mts

My friend Phu saved my life though because he magically changed the camera settings somehow after that first day of filming. All the footage from the first day was a weird 60p fps I believe and that caused Final Cut pro to crash in post production. Everytime I imported a Maryan clip and pressed play Final Cut would crash. I eventually had to reshoot the non audio scene with my own camera ^_^.

On the due date of the video project which was yesterday 8/9/2012, I was rushing to edit and do minor adjustments to the movie and out in the credits and export all before my Precalc final. Around 3:15 pm I decided to just come to the test room a few minutes late. But then I noticed the fire wire wire to my external hard drive was a little loose so I adjusted it. That caused the computer to think that I ejected the disk somehow, so I had to start all over again. In the end I decided to take my final first and export later.
I was really scared that my film teacher wouldn't accept my project because it was 20 minutes instead of 12. But she was cool with it.

So yea...a tough and stressful time, but rewarding nontheless.

      ENJOY!
