NMA FCT Chapter Decry Alleged Attack of Doctors By Striking JOHESU Workers

The Nigerian Medical Association, Federal Capital Territory Chapter is calling on relevant authorities to safeguard the lives of its members, from what it described as violent assault and physical harassment by some members of the Joint Health Sector Union. Chairman of the chapter Doctor Fatima Mairami made the appeal at a media briefing in Abuja. Doctor Mairami said since the industrial action by the members of the Joint health sector union workers started in October last year. Doctors have been rendering clinical services in various government hospitals, some of these Doctors however had not too good experience on the 21st, 22nd and 26th of January, when some persons alleged to be members of JOHESU invaded the premises of Gwarimpa General Hospital, National Hospital and the Research Laboratory of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospitals driving workers and patients out by tear gasing the premises. The Association call for round the clock security for it members while striving to safe lives. So far one suspect has been arrested by the police. Efforts to speak with the members of the JOHESU proved abortive.
