Someone stole $3,000 worth of girls' dance costumes from a van parked outside a Sedalia strip mall.

Dance Studio owner Dana Van Atta said she had parked her van near her studio, only to find that a thief had cleaned it out, taking anything worth $1.

She had just taken dozens of the dancers on a trip and the van was filled with about 70 valuable costumes.

"What they took means so much. These little girls look up to me and they look forward to (the show) -- it's their time to shine. And now it's all been taken away. It is very frustrating," Van Atta told KMBC's Jim Flink. "I don't understand why someone would do that. It makes me sick."

Van Atta said she hopes the thief will return the costumes, no questions asked. She said a show scheduled for this weekend will go on, with or without the costumes.

Anyone with information in the case can call Sedalia police.

Meanwhile, other dance studios have called KMBC, offering to help Van Atta's students find costumes.
