I would really like your opinions on this one guys.  Just about all of you who like to respond are smart, insightful people, so your thoughts on this are appreciated.

Basically, I feel that in these days and times, protests aren't that effective anymore.  They may have been in the past, but they just seem to be a way for the government to easily lock up dissidents now.  About the only thing it can do is raise public awareness... and even that seems to be questionable.

That's my opinion though... I could be wrong.
