This talk was presented at the April APS meeting in the new directions in particle physics section. We start with the observation that tensors are a group under the addition operator, while groups using multiplication. Our understanding of mass does not work from atoms to the origin of galaxies, so perhaps it is time to challenge our acceptance of the math tools. I show how the mathematical field of quaternions could result in the same action as the tensor approach. New physics can be introduced by substituting groups with new symmetries. The graph theory of real, complex, quaternions, and hypercomplex numbers is shown. The talk ends with a plug for my site, http://VisualPhysics.org
