Regardless of whether you were familiar with the Indian story Hayavadana, when Bangalore folk rockers The Raghu Dixit Project and members of British folk group Bellowhead appeared onstage to perform their version of the mythical love tale at London's Southbank Centre, it was clear something very special was about to happen.

The fable tells the story of two friends, Deva and Kush, who fall madly in love with a girl called Lavanya, and through a harmonious collaboration of Indian and British music the musicians brought the audience on a journey through various stages of friendship, marriage, betrayal and death. While the Bellowhead vocalists sang in English about passion and regret, a compelling narrator illustrated the plot and a group of dancers reinforced the emotions of the tale's protagonists through their movements.

Charismatic frontman Raghu Dixit had already taken the world by storm with his powerful, earthy, soulful voice and although he was battling a sore throat during the show, that trademark big, beautiful smile never left his face. He even delighted the crowd with few numbers, including some fantastic renditions of the show's moralistic theme, 'Be Careful What You Wish For'.

An astonishingly beautiful adaptation of an ancient fable about universal experiences, told through the voices and vision of some of the world's greatest folk musicians -- this show is certain to delight music lovers the world over.
