El Mecanismo de asistencia UE FAO para las Políticas (FIRST por sus siglas en inglés) en 32 países, una organización sub regional y un territorio, siendo uno de ellos Guatemala. El objetivo principal del programa FIRST es fortalecer el entorno propicio para la seguridad alimentaria y nutricional y la agricultura sostenible en los países prioritarios seleccionados y, cuando proceda, en las organizaciones regionales pertinentes. Para proporcionar los servicios de asistencia para las políticas y desarrollo de capacidad, el FIRST cuenta con una red de oficiales de políticas y expertos con grandes conocimientos técnicos en las políticas y gobernanza en seguridad alimentaria y nutricional.
