EU doubles humanitarian aid to help CAR refugees

The European Commission announced on Wednesday it will double its humanitarian aid for Cameroon from €3 to €6 million to help the country cope with the refugees fleeing from war-torn Central African Republic, as the episodes of violence in the neighboring country continue. 
The funding comes on top of the Commission's support of €4 million to Central African refugees since the country's crisis escalated last December.

"The European Commission has decided to double the humanitarian aid for Cameroon from €3 to €6 million to help the country cope with the refugees who have crossed the borders of the African Republic in horrible conditions. They are exhausted and dehydrated. The majority are children and women who need medical care not just shelter and food. Cameroon has been very generous. Local communities have been welcoming besides the fact that most of the refugees are Muslims and most of the receiving communities are Christians. The live in harmony. That deserves to be supported and this is exactly what we have done today." said EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva.
