More than 1,200 roads in North Carolina were closed on Monday due to flooding from Hurricane Florence, now downgraded to a tropical depression, which brought record rain and storm surges to the state. At least 23 people have been killed as a result of the storm, which made landfall on Friday as a Category-1 hurricane. The slow-moving storm has dumped up to 91cm of rain on the state since Thursday, displacing thousands. The flooding could persist for several weeks in some areas.
