A presentation that Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou gave to a bank in August 2013 lies at the heart of the US allegations against Meng and her arrest in Vancouver. The 17-slide PowerPoint, presented by Meng through an English interpreter, aimed to ease concerns raised by HSBC execs that Huawei may have been breaking US sanctions by doing business in Iran via a subsidiary called Skycom. US prosecutors accused Meng of lying to bankers when she denied that Huawei and the Hong Kong-based subsidiary were affiliated, misleading HSBC to continue clearing Skycom transactions in Iran.
