Isla Chanel of Los Angeles, California is a competitive voguer, repping a dance movement that evolved out of 1960s-era gay, trans, black and Latino communities and later expanded to accept women and all parts of the LGBT community. Inspired by modeling poses, voguers bring the runway to the dance floor with moves like spins, death drops and catwalking. Chanel, recently crowned Woman Voguer of the Year, even runs the local vogue event Banjee Ball at the Union Nightclub in Los Angeles -- all to maintain a safe space where members of the queer community can express themselves and their femininity.
