In our final installment of planet5D coverage of PhotoPlus Expo 2015 I mangle the show’s name, fulfill a bucket list item (sitting in the real BACK TO THE FUTURE DeLorean – thank you, Samsung) and ruminate on just how appropriate BTTF is as a theme for what to me were the show’s highlights. At my age, I really shouldn’t gush in public, let alone in writing. And in the case of BACK TO THE FUTURE, I wasn’t a kid when it first came out in 1985: I was already approaching 30. I don’t care. BTTF is one of the greatest movies of all time (geddit?), and I was astounded to walk into PhotoPlus Expo 2015 to see the original DeLorean right there in front of me. Ergo, gushing. 7 Things You Didn't Know About Back to the Future https://youtu.be/60NX3Q4Dl6Aamzn BACK TO THE FUTURE http://amzn.to/1Q3fM7X The BTTF Soundtrack featuring Power of Love with Huey Lewis and The News http://amzn.to/1kk3z2g BACK IN TIME (documentary) http://amzn.to/1kk3yvc More than that, though: the highlights of PPN as far as I’m concerned -- the au courant OLED depth of field scale on the Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 on the one hand; the old school manual focus Loxia 21mm f/2.8 on the other; and the uber-modern yet Bauhaus-informed 10:2:2 4K shooting, 4.4 megapixel viewfinder sporting Leica SL – were proofs positive that we can now appreciate what was great about the past without glorifying it, while being very happy to be back to the future to take advantage of advances in technology and maybe even…advances in civilization. Or something like that. PhotoPlus Expo 2015 was an unexpectedly a joyous occasion with some great new gear thrown into the mix, all of which make it clear once again: yes, it’s about the gear; and no, it’s not about the gear. About that gear (!)... Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 at B&H: at B&H http://bhpho.to/1GGKTnK Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 at B&H: http://bhpho.to/1LKKJL4 Leica SL at B&H: http://bhpho.to/1MZ5JLU
