Congressman Ed Whitfield- R of the 1st Congressional District for Kentucky takes the podium at Fancy Farm's St. Jerome Catholic Church picnic in Graves County, Kentucky. Every year since the early 1880s, St. Jerome Catholic Church in the small town of Fancy Farm, near Mayfield, Kentucky, in Graves County, has hosted an annual community picnic. At some point, political candidates began to see the Fancy Farm Picnic as a good chance to meet, greet, and stump for votes. Soon a platform for speaking was added, and by the middle of the 20th century, Fancy Farm had become the unofficial kickoff event for the fall campaigns. If you missed KET's live coverage on Saturday, you can watch all the highlights in a special one-hour program. Bill Goodman and Renee Shaw will present excerpts of the speeches, interviews with elected officials, and much more. Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 at 8/7 pm CT on KET.
