Professor Clare Cavanagh is among 15 writers to receive The American Academy of Arts and Letters’ 2018 awards in literature. Cavanagh, widely regarded as the best English translator of Polish poetry, has translated, or co-translated, seventeen volumes of poetry and prose by Nobel Laureate Wisława Szymborska, Adam Zagajewski, Ryszard Krynicki and other poets. Cavanagh is the Frances Hooper Chair in the Arts and Humanities and Professor and Chair, Slavic Languages and Literature at Northwestern University.
