Now we're on to the Battle of Xinye. Which is weird that this is still a battle since Cao Ren has already retreated, but whatever. Xu Shu never comes up again after this btw.

First we have a side mission to take Xu Shu's mother hostage. So you go to her and lie to her that she's coming to check on Cao Cao's kid and then the game informs you that you've literally just taken her hostage. So it makes me wonder why you couldn't just send like, two peons to go do that.

There's another side mission to find Xu Shu, which is weird since we KNOW where he's at because the main mission is to defeat him. But whatever. To "find" him we have to talk to the peasants in the town and they tell us about which direction he went to. Then you tell Jia Xu where you should search. I mess this up, but it's not because I don't know my directions. It's that once you're in the choice you can't back out of it, so you HAVE to tell him a direction. And since you can't see the map, unless you knew you were going to have to do that before hand, you probably have no idea which direction is which because normally you never, ever have to keep up with that.

Another side mission is negotiating with peasants to let you pass through their village. Which is stupid. Because this is open world so you can go around their entire village, it's barely the size of a city block. But no, since there's clearly no way around we have to do all their stupid objectives like hunting wolves because apparently peasants don't know how to hunt.

And then the battle itself. You just go in and defeat Xu Shu, it's that simple. Zhang Fei is there so you can fight him if you're in the mood for it, or just ignore him entirely with no repercussions whatsoever.
