#InspirationsFromTheMaster - "I wish..." - Every time we continue that sentence, rarely do we ever follow it up with any ACTION, almost as if we want it to happen without putting in any effort. That could be because we think it's either too much work or out of our control. Are things in our control, or are they destined?
► Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda, used to say, "Man can change his destiny, not by wishing for it but by working for it." By this, he meant that destiny is a path we carve out for ourselves. Swamini Supriyananda illustrates this with a simple example - if we wake up every morning and drink a cup of coffee, there's a high chance of us having a cup of coffee the following morning. Is it our destiny? Certainly not. Can we change it? Sure, but we would have to put in the effort. Having done it so many times, to stop the action will require some EFFORT that removes the momentum of the action. We can CHOOSE to either stop or continue having that cup of coffee. 
Similarly, this can be applied to more profound changes, like the way we interact with a person with whom every previous conversation has ended badly. We can CHOOSE to do things differently and reflect on what it is that we are not doing quite right. We can CHANGE our attitude. We can CHANGE our level of optimism and pessimism. We can CHANGE even the environment by the way we interact in it. If we WISH for something, nothing much changes. But if we WORK for something, we have a good chance of changing it.
