May 2, 2011 Yesterday morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. the California Highway Patrol and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department responded to Finch Rd. near Garner Rd. for reports of a single vehicle collision. When they arrived they saw that the vehicle had crashed into a natural gas main line and that the dangerous and highly flammable gas was spewing into the air. The driver of the vehicle had already fled the scene of the crash. The area was quickly evacuated and Pacific Gas And Electric was called to the scene to cap the leak. The leak continued for over an hour as there was no shut off valve near the leak and PG&E had to dig under the street to seal the line. Modesto News .org spoke with Craig of Fat Manz Towing who responded to the scene to take custody of the vehicle. Modesto News .org was the only news agency at the leak and this footage was used on yesterday's Good Day Sacramento broadcast. http://www.ModestoNews.org All Rights Reserved - Copyright 2011
