I'm on the moon... This video is the result of a Calculus 252 assignment, where Andrew Bragg and I were to "create something relating to Calculus" and "apply our the knowledge we've learned over the course to come about an answer." I'm an enthusiastic amateur videomaker, and Andrew and I have been making 'music' since our sophomore year together, so we decided to team up (and reunite The Doctor Team). A la High Schoolers, we procrastinated for two weeks until a few days before our presentation, then frantically struggled to come up with a plot for our project. Andrew had the idea of filming us doing random activities for a few minutes then busting out with impractical but relevant integration. After changing the storyline dozens of times, we decided to screw around and make a math-music video. Technical Stuff→ I recorded Andrew's guitar and drum playing into Mixcraft 5 using a Shure SM58 and the CAD Pro-7 Drum Mics, respectively, through a PreSonus FireStudio Project. The obnoxious beat was created in FL Studio 9, then exported to Mixcraft 5 for us to 'sing' over. I though I had a fair amount of experience, but editing time went well over 10 hours, not including all the work spent on the actual filming, production of the songs and vocals, or calculus work. The video is shot exclusively with a Panasonic HDC-SD100 in 1920x1080 24p Digital Cinema, whose levels were later adjusted in Sony Vegas 9.0. This project is my first using a chroma key (green screen), but I think it turned out fairly well. I hung a green blanket from the ceiling for Andrew and I to stand and lip-sync in front of. We shot three takes for the music video, and used multi-camera editing on Sony Vegas to switch between the different takes. The moon news report was created using a shot of the moon as the background with the audio provided as I spoke into Shure SM58 (a quick echo and a colossal-sized room reverb was added to simulate our stereotypes of the moon) and I added a news ticker-style marquee at the bottom of the frame by automating one line of text to move from right to left. The generic colored patterns in the music video were created using Media Generators and tediously adjusting each to be white with soft pastel-like colors. The video was rendered to 1280x720 23.976fps .wma with 256kbps stereo .wma audio. Thanks for watching, and please let me know what you think.
