20% Time ​allows students to pick their own project and learning outcomes while still meeting and exceeding standards and skills for the ​curriculum.​ ​It​ provides students with a constructive outlet​ ​for their passions and interests.​


Claire Reiss, a Nashoba Brooks School student, utilized her class’ 20% Time Project to study animation. The concept of 20% Time has been made famous by companies such as Google, whose employees created Gmail and the Google Teacher Academy when allowed to devote 20% of their time to personal projects. 3M adopted a similar program decades earlier, resulting in the creation of Post-Its.
