Following the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh on October 27, hundreds of Jewish people are learning how to shoot guns at the Cherev Gidon Israeli Tactical Defense Academy. The school, based in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was inundated with hundreds of requests for gun training lessons by Jewish people immediately after the shooting. On Tuesday October 30 the Academy held a special one-day course on synagogue shooters where students went through active-shooter response drills, were taught how to handle handguns and rifles, and practiced loading and firing AR-15 rifles at bulls-eye targets. Students are hoping to arm themselves to protect their communities should another active shooter break into a synagogue.
