NOTE: Keto Dzhaparidze or: Keto Japaridze  (Ketevan Konstantinovna Japaridze) Georgian singer who worked predominantly in the genre of a Russian romance. Born in 1901 to a Georgian gentry family in a Caucasus summer resort village Kvishkheti – died in 1968 in a Georgian capital city Tbilisi.  In 1909, she went to study at the Tiflis (Tbilisi) gentry gymnasium, where her powerful voice was noticed by the famous composer Zakhari Paliashvili, who worked there as a music teacher and directed the school choir. In 1919 she entered the Tiflis Conservatory. In 1927, after graduating from the conservatory, she left for Berlin, where she took singing lessons for 3 years. In 1930, she returned to the USSR (to Georgia, which meanwhile had been incorporated into Stalin’s Soviet empire). In 1937 she made her debut in Moscow - she gave a solo concert on the stage of the Hermitage (Moscow Theater of the Revolution) and shortly thereafter she had her debut on stage in Sankt Petersburg (then called: Leningrad). In 1939 she was invited to participate in the First All-Union Contest of Variety Artists, and received one of the prizes. Along with another Georgian singer Tamara Tsereteli, Keto Dzhaparidze belongs to those outstanding Georgian female singers, who in the earlier decades of the 20th century introduced the elements of Georgian national singing into the “Gypsy” style of an old Russian romance, adding a new unexpected color to its performances.
