Watch how a smoke detector helped a Milledgeville resident receive emergency assistance.

At 4:45 a.m., Dot Brown was awakened by the piercing sound of an ADT fire alarm in her Milledgeville home. Mrs. Brown automatically assumed it was a burglar, Mrs. Brown grabbed her pistol and headed out of her bedroom to investigate.
Just then, ADT called Mr. Brown and informed her it was a smoke detector going off. Mrs. Brown smelled the smoke and saw the fire as she exited the home and waited outside for first responders to arrive. When Baldwin County Fire Rescue arrived, they quickly knocked down the fire. Mr. Brown was grateful her home, irreplaceable belongings and life were spared. Mrs. Brown will have the opportunity to publicly thank those involved.
