Greetings Eric Bakker. Thanks for coming back and checking out my videos. We're going to do a series of videos today on seb derm. So, it's called seborrheic dermatitis or seb and some people call it.

So let's first talk about what seb derm is, or seborrheic dermatitis. What the heck is it? It sounds like some kind of weird Star Wars kind of a character or something.

 So, seb derm is actually quite common, many people have it. Many people have it in a form that they don't really associate with dermatitis and it's dandruff, okay. So it's also called  pityriasis capitis. We love giving all these weird names to diseases when we're in the medical profession. So dandruff is really an uncomplicated form of seb derm, it's an uninflammed form. So seb derm is really a type of ... just playing with my light. 

Seb derm is a type really of skin condition that affects the parts of the body with glands that are very sebaceous or fatty glands. We see it on the chest, we see it on the face, the trunk, can be the upper back or the neck. We'll see it on the face, we could see it on this region here and particularly the scalp.

What the heck is this kind of condition? What is it? What causes it? We're going to talk about a lot of that in this series of videos coming up. It's really something that can be quite distressing for a lot of people. It's not uncommon. It can be associated with psoriasis in some people. Some people can have psoriasis and seb derm together. 

It very commonly will start on the scalp and can move to other areas. It's not really going to kill you, but it can be quite ugly and unsightly. We're going to show you a few tricks today to get on top of this skin condition. It can affect young people, infants ... there are infantile forms of it and, of course, there are older people forms of this skin condition.
