Lisa Allen-Agostini is a writer and journalist from Trinidad and Tobago. She is the author of the young adult novel The Chalice Project (Macmillan Caribbean, 2008) and co-editor of Trinidad Noir (Akashic Books, 2008), an anthology of crime fiction set in Trinidad. The mother of two girls, she writes for young women at her blog Dawtah. In 2009 she founded The Allen Prize for Young Writers, an NGO. Its aim is to improve writing in Trinidad & Tobago by giving prizes, seminars and workshops to teen writers, and publishing their works. It began its inaugural programme in September, 2010. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
