Last night at around 9:15 p.m. a Stanislaus County Sheriff's Deputy conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle which had expired registration tags, near the intersection of Patterson Rd. and Palmer Ave.

The driver of the vehicle pulled to the side of the road on Palmer Ave. and stopped however, when he did the passenger in the vehicle got out and fled the scene on foot.

The lone deputy stayed with the vehicle and the driver, and called for backup to begin to search for the suspect.

The driver of the vehicle was detained at the scene and the manhunt began when backup arrived. The deputies searched the area for nearly an hour with the help of a K-9 trained in tracking.

The search was called off when the track went cold. The driver of the vehicle was released with a citation for minor traffic violations and his car was towed.

Deputies at the scene decided to keep the identity of the suspect confidential at this time pursuant to their ongoing investigation.
