Uwe Bergmann, a graduate from Stony Brook University, is a Senior Staff Scientist at SLAC and the Deputy Director of the Linac Coherent Light Source at the Laboratory. His research activities are focused on the development and application of novel x-ray spectroscopic techniques. He recently used a special imaging technique, x-ray fluorescence imaging, to reveal hidden writings in the 10th century Archimedes Palimpsest. He also led an x-ray scanning experiment on Archaeopteryx, a 150-million-year old "dinobird" fossil, which revealed previously unseen elements of the animal's original chemistry.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
